Enjoying the Fruits of Our Labor
At Serenbe, we wear our creativity on our sleeves. From the signs that mark the entrance to the community, to the newsletter that you’re reading now, we strive to infuse all of our efforts with originality and inspiration that reflect our ideals.
Our hard work is paying off, as various members of our creative team are recognized for their contributions. Last fall Brian Young was given a Gold Award by the Atlanta Home Builders Association for his work on the Serenbe Web site. The organization also honored Smith Hanes with a Gold Award for his design of the Serenbe information center, and recognized Robert Rausch with a Gold Award for our direct marketing piece. This spring Robert received some of the creative industry’s most coveted awards, winning four ADDY® Awards for our stationery, community signs and direct mail pieces.

We believe it will only be a matter of time before Robert’s latest creation - the Serenbe streetlight - garners its own acclaim. Functional pieces that illuminate Serenbe’s main street, the streetlights are also far from ordinary. They are truly works of art, inspired by the trees that could be considered our first residents. The care and creativity that have gone into the production of these streetlights is indicative of our commitment to creating a distinct and definable character that gives Serenbe a sense of place. If we’ve spent countless hours getting the details just right, you can be sure that we’ve put even more effort into the “big things” that give Serenbe the best of both urban and rural living.
One of Serenbe’s most unique features is our community farm. Serenbe Farms, operated by Daron “Farmer D” Joffe, is at the forefront of an international trend toward integrating agriculture into mixed-use, urban-edge communities such as ours. Serenbe Farms operates within the principles of biodynamic agriculture, a holistic and spiritual approach to sustainable farming. The 30-acre farm is strictly organic and grows vegetables, edible and medicinal herbs, flowers and fruit. Recently, Farmer D and his staff have begun sharing the fruits of their labor, selling fresh organic produce at locations in metro Atlanta, including the Piedmont Farmers Market, Morningside Farmers Market and the Spruell Arts Center Farmers Market.

In addition, Serenbe Farms is selling a limited number of shares in its community supported agriculture, or CSA. Through the CSA, a collective of consumers invest in a farm in exchange for receiving a weekly share of fresh produce throughout the growing season. In this way, consumers are able to develop an intimate connection to the land as they are given the opportunity to participate in the rewarding task of growing food. Working directly with consumers enables farmers to provide a fresher and more meaningful product, while still keeping the prices competitive. The principles behind CSA – connection to the land, sustainability, community – are all core values of Serenbe, making it a natural fit for our farm. As all of the pieces of our community begin to come together, we are getting increasing recognition for our efforts in the media. Over the past several months, Serenbe has been featured in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and, most recently, the Atlanta Business Chronicle, highlighting our plans to preserve the Chattahoochee Hill Country’s rural character through responsible development.
