A Taste of the Arts and Good Southern Cooking

On a beautiful Wednesday evening during the first week of August, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra took the stage in the Chattahoochee Hill Country.

Enjoying an ASO performance in the Chattahoochee Hill Country

More than 1,500 people enjoyed a program of classical favorites, including the first movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 and John Williams’ Star Wars theme song.

This scene – hundreds of people enjoying the arts in a permanently preserved green space – is tremendously rewarding. Countless hours of work have gone into preserving the natural landscape that makes this area a desirable place to live. And now, through partnerships such as the one between the CHC Conservancy and the ASO, the arts are becoming more prominent here, adding to our already high quality of life. Over 170 people attended a dinner at Serenbe Bed & Breakfast to raise funds for the concert and for CHCC’s land protection plan. Both the fundraiser and the concert were successful, and there are already preliminary plans for a similar event next summer. We hope you’ll be able to attend.

Tasty blue-eyed daisies

We also hope that you’ll join us for a cup of coffee at Blue-Eyed Daisy Bakeshop, which opens this month. This is an important and exciting milestone for Serenbe, as our first retail shop begins serving residents and our CHC neighbors. Johnny and Angie Mosier, operators of Blue-Eyed Daisy Bakeshop, believe that good food, shared with friends and strangers alike, is a driving force behind community and communication. Blue-Eyed Daisy Bakeshop is a mix of Southern history and well-traveled taste. Farm eggs, Tennessee ham and heirloom tomatoes are stuffed inside fresh, buttermilk biscuits. There is a soup of the day and most days, it is something that could be described as innovative or exquisite, but on at least one day of the week, it is pinto beans and cornbread. Both of the Mosier’s families hail from east Tennessee farms and that recipe is included on the menu not only as a nod to them, but also because it is exquisitely delicious. Johnny and Angie also know that while it used to be difficult to find European style pastries in the South, it is now the norm. Finding a delicious caramel cake can be more difficult to find than a Gateau Chasseur. While skilled in the creation of European pastries, Angie and Johnny have chosen to concentrate on the tastes of the South.

Just as important as the food is having a comfortable place to sit with others and meet neighbors and new friends. Blue-Eyed Daisy hopes to be a place where stories are told, problems worked out and conversation stirred—all over a cup of joe and some banana pudding. Oh, and the name? Well that was figured out on the Mosier’s 15th wedding anniversary while passing a beautiful garden, filled with Arctosis Grandis, the Blue-Eyed Daisy, in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco—their favorite food city.

Blue-Eyed Daisy Bakeshop officially opens for business on September 23. Mark your calendars and bring your appetites. We’re still finalizing operating hours and menus, so keep checking www.serenbecommunity.com for details.
