| The townhouse district anchors the hamlet |
 |
The Townhouses of Serenbe provide urban-style dwellings in the hamlet’s core. Many of these 2- and 3-story homes are designed with the primary living space on the upper floors, known in architectural circles as piano nobile. Some have rear detached garages with walled courtyards. These long, narrow homes are of brick, stone or smooth stucco on masonry, with balconies facing the street and any adjacent alley. The architecture will borrow from the antebellum industrial style, such as you find in the old dairy ruins on the Serenbe property. These attached townhouses will incorporate an organic sense of architecture, with a rhythmic flow from classic inspiration to modern. It might feel like walking down a small side street in Paris, where a line of timeless older buildings are interrupted occasionally by a contemporary façade.
